We're UNLIKED when we're actually LIKED.

We're UNLOVED when we're actually LOVED.

We're PATHETIC when we're actually HUMAN.

We're USELESS when we're actually USEFUL.

We're STUPID when we're actually INTELLIGENT.

We're UNSKILLED when we're actually SKILLED.

We should feel SHAME when we actually SHOULD NOT.

Simple Ways to Sharpen Your Senses When Feeling Anxious and Depressed





Anxiety and depression are affecting millions of people around the world.  These conditions can really get us stuck in a rut.  How to completely solve these problems can be complex, but sometimes a little boost can help us make another step in the right direction.

One problem with anxiety and depression is that it seems to dull the senses.  This leaves us feeling isolated from our environments.  Reconnect with your world by becoming more fully mindful of your experiences.  

Try these simple and quick ways to pick up your spirits and get you going when you can't get your motor running:

1.  Stimulate your sense of TEMPERATURE.
     Make yourself more aware of how your skin feels when exposed to different temperatures.

    * Splash some cold water on your face, hands, or feet.  
     * Take a cool shower or bath.  
     * Put a warm towel on your face.
     * Run warm water on your hands.
     * Soak your feet in warm water.
     * Take a warm shower or bath.

2.  Stimulate your sense of TASTE.  
     Slow the eating process down so that you can be more aware of the sensation of tasting food.

     * Choose a food you love to taste.  Put it in your mouth and eat it as slowly as you possibly can.
     * Try this with foods that are more shocking, such as foods that are very sour, bitter, or spicy.

3.  Stimulate your sense of SMELL.  
     Choose aromas that remind you of happy moments and surround yourself with them.  Examples:
     
   * Slice lemons and slowly breathe in the scent.  Add them to your glass of water.
     * Use lavender scented lotions and sachets.
     * Peel an orange and squeeze the oil from the peel onto your hands and breathe it in.
     * Add cinnamon to boiling water and breathe in the aroma in the room.
  
4.  Stimulate your sense of HEARING.
     Choose sounds that activate positive feelings and memories.  Play recordings of:

     * Your favorite music
     * Birds singing
     * Children playing
     * Ocean waves

5.  Stimulate your sense of SIGHT.
     Find things to gaze at that promote a positive mood.

     * Look at your favorite pictures.
     * Watch videos that are heartwarming.
     * Take a nature walk.
     * Look up travel photos and videos.

6.  Stimulate your sense of TOUCH.
     Rub your fingers and hands across a variety of surfaces with different textures, such as:

     * Furry teddy bears
     * Bumpy pineapples
     * Smooth pillows
     * Sticky honey

To make these activities even more stimulating, try them with a friend!

How to Resolve Conflict with Those We Love






When people's emotions are stirred up, they have a burning desire to be heard.  Until that need is met, they can not fully pay attention to what the other person is saying.  Rather than listening to the other person, they are instead rehearsing what they want to say.  The conflict escalates because neither person is truly listening to the other.

Try the following steps toward conflict resolution:







Step One:  Take Turns Stating Your Case
Person A must make the following "I Statement:"
"I feel _____ when you _____."
Person B must respond by repeating back what Person A stated
until Person A agrees that the statement was repeated correctly.
Then each person must switch roles.

Step Two:  Repeat Step One Until All Feelings Have Been Stated






Step Three:  Take Turns Asking for What You Need
Person A must make the following "I Statement:"
"When _____ happens, I need you to _____."
Person B must respond by repeating back what Person A stated
until Person A agrees that the statement was repeated correctly.
Then each person must again switch roles.

Step Four:  Repeat Step Three Until All Needs Have Been Stated



Step Five:  Take Turns Stating What You Agree to Do
Person A must make the following "I Statement:"
"When _____ happens, I agree to _____."
Person B must respond by repeating back what Person A stated
until Person A agrees that the statement was repeated correctly.
Then each person must again switch roles.

Step Six:  Repeat Step Five Until All Needs Have Been Met







Step Seven:  Make Apologies and Forgive Each Other

Simple Foods to Dress Up for Halloween!



Halloween Party Treats can be fun and easy!  Try taking these simple, healthy foods and dressing them up for Halloween:





             



Slice an egg and add spices or black olives to make the slices look like eyes.








Cut celery stalks and stuff them with peanut butter or cream cheese (to avoid deadly peanut allergies) to form a log. Then add raisins on top to look like ants on a log or slivers of red peppers to look like worms on a log.







Peel a tangerine and stick a celery stick or a slice of bell pepper in it to make it look like a pumpkin.  Or slice a small, real pumpkin in half and bake it at 375 degrees until tender.  Don't forget to bake the seeds at 160 degrees for 15 minutes.












Float whole or halved grapes in cranberry juice to look like eyes floating in blood.  Or float thin cucumber strips to look like worms in blood.








Place walnutspretzel sticks or cooked spaghetti in crumbled cookies to look like brains, sticks or worms in dirt.

Bake at 375 degrees until tender.  Then freeze it for up to 6 months.




Seeds can be washed, dried, and tossed with a little olive oil then baked at 160 degrees for no more than 15 minutes to protect the healthy fats.

Natural Ways to Get the Shingles Virus Off Your Back



Shingles is a viral (herpes zoster) infection that causes a painful itching and burning rash of blisters.  It occurs on patches of skin on one side of the body (usually in the rib area) or a stripe on the face.  The virus becomes activated by stress and fatigue, especially in older adults.  It can also produce chills, headaches, and fevers.

In addition to ice packs and calamine lotion, you might want to try these natural remedies for shingles:


Garlic
The cloves are best eaten raw.   Finely chop a clove and let it sit for 15 minutes.  Then swallow it like a pill with water.  You can also add several cloves of garlic to your cooked food.  Remember to chop it and let it sit before using it.

Apple Cider Vinegar
Saturate a clean cloth with it and apply it to your rash.  Then carefully place a hot water bottle or heated pad over the cloth.  Do not burn the skin.


Oatmeal
Add it to your bath to soothe your skin.


Vitamin B12
Eating foods such as fortified cereal and beef liver are good ways to obtain this vitamin.

Vitamin E
Consuming cooked spinach, olive oil, and sunflower seeds will provide you with vitamin E.

Vitamin C
Eating citrus fruit such as oranges, lemons, grapefruit, and pineapple will give you this vitamin.

The Amino Acid Lysine 
Beans such as black beans and lentils can be eaten to obtain lysine.

Tea Tree Oil

Capsaicin

Baking Soda and Epsom Salt 
Add them to a warm bath to soothe your skin.


Flaxseed Oil
This oil may be swallowed by the tablespoon.


Peppermint Oil and Oregano Oil
These oils can be applied to the skin.

Massage
If you feel the need for a massage, don't rub the place that hurts. Instead, rub the opposite side of your body in the same (mirror image) position!

How to Keep Arguments from Getting Out of Control




The most important thing for relationship partners to remember when having a disagreement is to put the relationship first.





The two must UNITE:  yoU aNI unTil the End.  Each person has to consider the needs of the relationship before the needs of the self.  That means that "ME, I, and MY" have to take a back seat to "US, WE, and OUR."

For example, if one person feels the need to spend $20 per day to be happy while the other feels the need to spend $30 per day to be happy, the real question is how much can the relationship afford for them to spend as a couple.  If the answer is $50 per day, then each person must be happy with $25 per day, that is, if they want a relationship built on fairness.





This logic is easiest to see in terms of money.  However, it is less clearly understood in more abstract and emotional contexts.  For example, if one person feels compelled to do all of the housework simply because the other person sees no need to do any of it, then there is an imbalance in fairness in the relationship despite the fact that all of the housework is getting done.  If that imbalance in fairness is accompanied by an imbalance in satisfaction, then the needs of the relationship are not being met.  In other words, if the person doing all the work is feeling cheated, unappreciated, and unloved, then the relationship is in trouble.




The relationship balance must be restored.  Either all housework must be shared equally or there must be a tradeoff that provides equal satisfaction to both persons.  A relationship cannot flourish when one person's contributions are unnoticed, undervalued, and unacknowledged.

When one person feels as if they are being used, the other person becomes the user.  And, nobody likes a user!

Vampires Aren't the Only Things that Garlic Keeps Away!!!







Garlic is notorious for sending Vampires into a state of hysteria! There's good reason for this...

This tiny powerhouse has antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-fungal, and antimicrobial properties. The key ingredient in garlic is allicin. It is also packed with many other nutrients, such as vitamins B1, B6, and C. 

To get the most out of garlic, eat it raw.  Chop it finely, and let it sit for at least fifteen minutes. This allows time for the garlic to release its allicin.  It's also most effective to eat garlic on an empty stomach.  




   BUT BE CAREFUL!!!  



Although some brave souls chew raw garlic, it is not a painless process. It is much more pleasant to swallow the chopped pieces with a glass of water, as if it were a pill. I'd also recommend starting with one clove and working your way up to two or three cloves a day. The most beneficial time to take garlic is early in the morning, before breakfast.
